Monforte d’Alba. Edgy, complex nose that’s currently extremely stern and uncompromising on the finish, which is decidedly bitter at this stage. Put this away for quite a while!
2019 was marked by an early bud burst, late flowering and a slow and progressive ripening that turned this vintage into one of the longest and latest of the decade. Early winter snow and moderate rainfall throughout the year allowed for good water reserves which promoted phenolic ripening. The Langhe was spared from both the April frost and the dramatic heat of late June, albeit a severe hailstorm hit the vineyards on September 5th. The 2019 vintage produced low yields of beautifully balanced berries, combining concentration and bright acidity.
