A generous application of wood sets off the pungent menthol, cassis, game and freshly crushed herb aromas. There is outstanding complexity and plenty of size, weight and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that display plenty of palate and tannin-buffering dry extract on the superbly persistent finish. This should be excellent but like the Rugiens, this is unlikely to drink well before at least 10 years of age.

The 2012 Corton-Greves Grand Cru has a floral, feminine bouquet with pretty iodine-tinged black and red berry fruit that are graceful and defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy entry, well judged acidity and builds towards a convincing, ripe blackcurrant and boysenberry finish that demonstrates fine tension. Excellent.
