From the oldest vines in Grand Cru Sporen, 2009 was the first vintage since 2001 when the full range of wines (including Vendange Tardive and SGN) could be made. A delightfully smooth, crisp, VT Gewurztraminer displaying a perfect combination of residual sugar (98g/l), alcohol and fresh acidity to finish. Potential alcohol was 17.2% with yields of 28hl/ha. Fine, pure and with no hint of heaviness or heat on the finish.
2009 Hugel, Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive
A great speciality for several generations of the Hugel family, who drafted the law on late harvest. Wine with great power and longevity to taste religiously by itself on a special occasion. These wines made from overripe grapes are picked well after the classic vintage and in the greatest years only. The action of noble rot (botrytis cinerea) gives them an almost unlimited ability to age. They are part of the elite of the greatest wines in France.
